C Rating Basics

C rate is a simple way to describe how fast a battery charges or discharges relative to its capacity.

A 1C rate means the battery charges or discharges in about one hour. A 2C rate means the same battery does it in about 30 minutes, and a 0.5C rate means about 2 hours. Higher C means higher current, which can be useful for power-hungry applications but may increase heat and battery stress.

Current (A) = C Rating × Battery Capacity (Ah)
Time (hours) = 1 ÷ C Rating
